Mike Brownson
Trumpet
Mike has been playing trumpet
since grade school when his mother
had to force him to practice 15
minutes a day. It certainly paid off,
because even in high school Mike
had begun playing for local jazz
bands and taking lessons from
Denny Schneider at UNL. When he
was in college, Mike was 1st trumpet
in the UNL marching band (where
he went on a few bowl trips), as well
as participating in the wind
symphony. However, he probably
had his most memorable moments
as the lead trumpet in the Nebraska
Jazz Orchestra, which also got him a
trip to England and Scotland. After
this, he played recording jingles with
Chip Davis and also played with the
Bobby Layne Orchestra (which took
him to Hawaii twice), and the Bobby
Mills Orchestra. Mike was also the
"on call" trumpet player for many
shows in both Omaha and Lincoln.
This allowed him to play with such
"greats" as Melissa Manchester,
Tom Jones and George Jones. He
has also played back up with Clarke
Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, and Maynard
Ferguson.
Recently, Mike was seen playing
with "Toot Sweet" and "The Fab
Tones" before becoming a regular
with "One More Time." When not
playing trumpet, Mike can be found
trying to fix up his Porche 911 or
driving his Dodge hemi pickup with
his wife Heidi.
